How can you help secure freedom of choice in medicine
Joining the NMS would be the most important step you could take, alternatively, registering as a supporter, but you can also help by recruiting friends, family and work colleagues too.
Write to
The Minister of Health,
c/o The House of Commons,
Westminster,
London
SW1 A OAA
stating that you support the aims of the Natural Medicines Society because you are concerned about the future of alternative and complementary medicine. That you want freedom of choice in medicine, and that you support the Society´s aims of improving standards in working towards increased availability, both within the NHS and the private sector.
Contact your MP, explaining why you support the NMS and that you believe the Minister should institute separate committees, composed of appropriately qualified people to advise on all questions to do with that particular discipline. You can write to your MP via the
House of Commons,
Westminster,
London
SW1A OAA
or at the local constituency office. Alternatively, you can visit at the constituency surgery, or even do both.
You can also write to you Euro MP along the same lines, European Directives have a bearing on British Government Policy. If you don´t know who your MEP is, contact the
European Parliament Office,
2 Queen Anne's Gate,
London
SW1 H 9AA
(Tel:020 7227 4300), or write and ask us at the NMS office (enclosing s.a.e. please).
You can write to the media - either to explain your concerns and why you support the NMS, or in response to an article you have read, or a programme you have seen or heard about alternative and complementary medicines. The more press coverage we receive, the more people get to know about our work.
We are in need of ongoing financial support, so if you can organise a fund-raising event, large or small, from a jumble sale or coffee morning to a musical concert or stage production - please do so (and write about it for our Newsletter.) Please contact the NMS office to discuss any ideas you may need help in developing your project.
We also welcome volunteers to help distribute our leaflets, and/or help on our stand at exhibitions.
If you have a particular interest or area of expertise you think could be of help to the Society, e.g. design, PR, public speaking, etc. do contact us.
You can also contribute to the NMS NEWS either by sending in any newspaper or magazine articles you think will be of interest to other members; writing articles; or just writing to the Editor with any queries, comments, ideas or to share your experiences of using alternative and complementary medicine or therapies.
